Five offline RPGs worth your battery

Five offline RPGs worth your battery

April 18, 2026 · Klara Brandt

The best test of a mobile RPG is a long trip with no Wi-Fi. If a game holds up in airplane mode over several hours, it earns a spot in my rotation. Here's what survived that test lately.

Emberfall Saga leads the pack for me. Turn-based combat means you can pause anytime, and the story is genuinely worth reading rather than skipping. I cleared three chapters on a bus and never noticed the time.

What I look for in an offline RPG is generous save handling and no hidden online checks. Nothing kills a session faster than a game freezing because it wanted to phone home. The good ones download everything once and leave you alone.

My advice: before a trip, open each candidate in airplane mode at home and play for ten minutes. If it nags for a connection, cut it now, not at 30,000 feet.
